The Free Bird is our de-leaded version of the beloved Jungle Bird tiki cocktail that rose to fame at the Aviary Bar in Kuala Lumpur during the 1970s. This refreshing blend of rum, pineapple, and bitters delighted poolside guests who savored its tropical flavor while enjoying enchanting sightings of exotic birds. Our featured ingredient, Fluère Spiced Cane Blend, shines in three tropical-inspired cocktails that are sure to both spice up AND cool down your summer.

let's get organized before
you start pulling out the ice!
With three unique recipes this month, here's what you'll need (in addition to what's in your box) for each drink. Please note, these are optional! Don't have a shaker? Mix it up in a drinking glass with a spoon! Don't have a jigger? Use a shot glass or tablespoon measure. No fresh juice? These are just suggestions on how to get the most variation out of your box, but you can get creative on your own and experiment!

HOW TO MAKE:
perfect crushed ice
Why crushed ice? Crushed ice is a fantastic choice for certain cocktails due to its ability to add delightful texture, provide a refreshing experience, and balance flavors through moderate dilution, given its faster melting rate compared to other ice types. Additionally, using the Lewis Ice Bag and Mallet included in this month's box makes preparing crushed ice a fun activity. To maximize the benefits of crushed ice, opt for robust flavors like those featured in the Free Bird drink from our August box, ensuring they stand out even with the extra dilution.
let's get mixing!
- 2 oz. Fluère Spiced Cane Blend
- .5 oz. Braggs Pineapple Cayenne
- .5 oz. fresh lime juice
- Crushed ice (use the Lewis ice mallet and bag in your box)
- 1/2 bottle of Stappi red bitter soda (~1.5 oz.)
- Pineapple leaf, pineapple wedge and cocktail cherry to garnish
In a tumbler, combine Fluère, Braggs, and lime juice. Stir the mixture gently. Incorporate crushed ice (you can find instructions above on using the Lewis bag and mallet to make crushed ice) while leaving some space for the Stappi. Finally, add the Stappi on top and garnish to your heart's content.
Clear & stoRmy
6 oz. Goslings Ginger Beer
- 2 oz. Fluère Spiced Cane Blend
- .5 oz of fresh lime (or more to taste)
- Lime wedge to garnish
In a highball with ice, pour ginger beer, top with Fluère and lime juice and give it a good stir. Garnish with lime wedge.
- ~4 oz. DaquiruISH
- 1 oz. Fluère Spiced Cane Blend
- Lime twist to garnish
While this product can be enjoyed chilled on it's own, we like to kick it up a notch with some Fluère to really drive home the rum profile. In a coupe glass, add a bit of crushed ice and pour DaquirISH and Fluère into coupe. Stir gently to combine and top with a lime twist.
