Spring Garnishes to Elevate your Cocktails

At Raising the Bar, we’re always looking for fun and exciting ways to elevate our zero-proof cocktails. One of our favorite ways to do that is by experimenting with garnishes. These finishing touches can take a drink from good to great, and with spring in full swing, inspiration is everywhere. We’ve put together 4 ideas for seasonal garnishes that will impress guests at your next get-together, or make your favorite at-home cocktail feel even more special. 

 

Edible Flowers:

After plenty of April showers, the first flowers of spring are finally beginning to bloom. But did you know that you can take many of those flowers straight from the garden and into your glass? Lavender, violet, nasturtium, and chamomile are all edible, and make beautiful garnishes for any drink. Sprinkle them into your glass or freeze them into ice cubes for a bright, whimsical addition to your favorite cocktail. 

 

Cucumber Ribbons: 

A go-to garnish for at home mixologists, the cucumber ribbon is sophisticated and deceptively simple. All you need to do is cut a thin strip of cucumber and wind it around the inside of your glass to create a beautiful design. If you have a cocktail skewer handy, you could also fold the ribbon into a spiral or accordion shape and layer it over the top of your glass. Add a sprig of mint or rosemary to enhance those fresh, earthy flavors and you have a perfect garnish for any garden party. 

 

Marshmallow Peeps: 

Easter may be over, but that doesn’t mean that we have to stop enjoying our favorite spring treats. The sugary snacks would pair perfectly with a lemonade-based drink, balancing out the tartness and adding a pop of color. Simply cut a small notch on the bottom of the peep and prop it up on the rim of your glass for the most adorable garnish you’ve ever seen. 

 

Brûléed Citrus:

Citrus wheels are classic for a reason. These garnishes are colorful, easy to prepare, and actually enhance flavors in your drink thanks to oils found in the peel. If you’re looking to go one step beyond, sprinkle your citrus wheel with a little sugar and set it under the broiler for a few minutes. Once the sugar has turned to a crisp, amber-colored crust, you can place it aside to cool before adding it to your drink of choice. The end result is an elegant and richly flavored garnish that will add depth to whatever drink you enjoy.
